NOTE: The information found on this website with respect to major/minor/program requirements is primarily directed at providing prospective students a general roadmap of the curriculum. Current Butler students are expected to review their degree audit report at my.butler.edu and speak with their advisor regularly for detailed information regarding their specific degree requirements and their progress toward degree completion.

The Bachelor of Arts in Art+Design degree is a perfect choice for students who are interested in adding a second major or minor to an academic discipline other than art.

Below are some of our most popular double majors. This is not an exhaustive list; other combinations are possible as well.

College of Communication
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Lacy School of Business
B.A. in Art+Design as a Secondary Major

The B.A. in Art+Design can also be added as a secondary major for students whose primary major is not art; see this link in the Application for Current Butler Students section for additional information and degree requirements.

Important Program Update

As the Indiana University and Purdue University partnership in IUPUI approaches its end on June 30, 2024, it is necessary to redefine Butler’s partnership with Purdue Engineering programs. Butler is already working with Purdue-Indianapolis to create exciting new opportunities that will benefit both students and the central Indiana economy.

All students currently enrolled in the Engineering Dual Degree Program, including those starting the program in fall 2023, will be able to complete their degrees on schedule and without interruption.

Emphases can be added to the Art+Design degree, and are available in Art History, Graphic Design, Lens-Based Media, and Painting and Drawing.

The following minors are through the the Jordan College of the Arts, Art Department, to students whose primary major is not in art. They consist of twenty-one (21) credit hours, of which twelve (12) are specified.

Museum Studies Minor

A minor in Museum Studies is available through the combined colleges of JCA and LAS for students across campus.  It consists of eighteen (18) credit hours, of which nine (9) are specified. For specific requirements, see the Museum Studies Minor curriculum guide.
