College of Business Achieves 99 Percent Placement Rate
Friday, March 02, 2012
Data collected from 96 percent of May and August 2011 College of Business (COB) graduates shows that 99 percent were placed within six months of graduation. This is the highest placement rate in over 10 years. (Placement refers to employed full-time in career-related positions, in graduate school or involved in gap year experiences.)
Seventy four percent of the May/August COB graduates were placed prior to graduation.
“We're excited by the high number, especially in a down economy,” said COB Dean Chuck Williams. “It speaks to the value of the comprehensive career development program we provide our students.
In the L. Ben Lytle Career Development Program, students are guided through a four-year career development program by their own personal career mentors. These former executives worked for companies such as Cummins, IBM, Smith Barney and Eli Lilly.
Beginning in the freshman year, students participate in various career development activities and workshops to build toward the two required internships completed after the junior year.
Freshman year is focused on campus involvement as well as self-discovery through the use of personal assessments and meetings with the career mentor. The sophomore year is about career exploration with workshops on career research resources and networking skills. Students also conduct information interviews and job shadows with alumni and employer partners.
Junior year hones in on internship search skills, including resume and interview workshops, as well as individual mock interviews. Students also attend the L. Ben Lytle Junior Forum where they benefit from life lessons and career advice from Mr. Lytle (former chairman and CEO of Anthem, Inc.). During the senior year, students wrap up their internships and finalize their post grad job search. In many cases, one of the two required internships leads directly to a post grad position.
“We feel this “total package” sets us apart, and really prepares our graduates for success in the job market,” said Williams.
Butler's cumulative placement rate for all May/August 2011 graduates is 92 percent.
