All the following courses must be completed at SLIIT in year 1 or 2, with a minimum passing grade equivalent to a C at BU.

Major credit requirements of all SLIIT students to be completed in year 3 or 4 at BU, with a minimum passing grade equivalent to a C at BU.

CORE credit requirements of all SLIIT students to be completed in year 3 or year 4 at BU, with a minimum passing grade according to CORE requirements.

*If a student would like to be considered for a waiver of the foreign language requirement, the student will need to submit a copy of the high school transcript indicating that the course of instruction was in Sinhala or Tamil.

• Reimbursement of SOA’s Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA) exam fees for those who pass the ASA exams at Butler.
• Study manuals and study sessions are available.
• Access to Department of Mathematical Sciences’ Actuarial Board of Visitors’ workshops and seminars.

Students are paired with a Diversity Ambassador and a Peer Mentor for successful navigation through academics and campus life and a designated Faculty Advisor for academic resources. In addition, the following campus resources are available:

• The Efroymson Diversity Center supports students with diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • International Student Club (Instagram: @bu_intlclub) and South Asian Student Association on campus.
• The Compass Center helps students to cultivate communities of religious diversity and distinctiveness while also partnering with students, faculty, and staff on exploring the pursuit of their life purpose.
• Student Success Center offers various options for tutoring and writing assistance for academic support.

International students are allowed to work only on campus if they are full time students. They can work no more than 20 hours per week when school is in session. First, you’ll need a job offer letter from an on-campus location. Then, you’ll obtain a Social Security Number. As this process takes a few weeks, international students cannot start work as soon as they arrive.

International students can work full time (more than 20 hours) during fall break and spring break during the semesters in which they are full time students. International students can work on internships under Curricular Practical Training (CPT) outside of Butler only if they are required by the degree program and connected to a course enrolled under their major.

International students can work for 12 months under Optional Practical Training (OPT) under an appropriate job offer related to the degree*.
For STEM fields, students can work up to 2 more years after OPT under an appropriate job offer related to the degree*.

If you would like to start a master’s or a doctoral degree after graduation, you may plan that during your final year of undergraduate studies. Many master’s and doctoral degrees in the USA provide merit-based assistantships which cover tuition and provide a stipend.
