Prayer, Meditation, & Reflection Spaces

Butler University provides spaces where students, faculty, and staff can pray, meditate, reflect, or step away from the pace of the day.

These spaces are open to people of all religious, spiritual, and secular backgrounds. They may be used for individual prayer, meditation, quiet reflection, contemplative practice, or other forms of spiritual care and renewal.

The Compass Center at the Blue House

The Compass Center, located in the Blue House on Sunset Avenue across from the Schrott Center, serves as a home for religious and spiritual life at Butler.

The house includes spaces for prayer, reflection, conversation, study, community gatherings, and student organization meetings. Because the Blue House is also an active community space, availability may vary throughout the day.

Visitors are welcome to stop by, spend time in the house, or contact the Compass Center with questions about using the space.

Jordan Hall reflection, meditation, and prayer rooms

Jordan Hall rooms 182 C and 182 D provide quiet spaces for prayer, meditation, and reflection during the academic day.

The rooms are generally available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. They are intended for individual or small-group use and serve as satellite spaces of the Compass Center.

No reservation is required for ordinary individual use.

Using shared spiritual spaces

To help keep these rooms welcoming and usable for everyone, please:

  • Respect the religious and spiritual practices of others.
  • Keep noise and conversation to a minimum.
  • Leave the space clean and ready for the next person.
  • Do not remove furnishings, texts, or other shared materials.
  • Avoid using the rooms for meetings, studying, or activities unrelated to prayer, meditation, or reflection.
  • Be mindful that others may be waiting to use the space.

Looking for a different kind of space?

Religious and spiritual practices vary, and the available rooms may not meet every need. The Compass Center can help students, faculty, and staff identify an appropriate space for worship, prayer, meditation, religious observance, or reflection.

For questions or assistance, email Aziel Nuñez, Director of the Compass Center.
