Mathematics, Statistics & Actuarial Science

It all adds up.

Boasting a sophisticated curriculum and direct faculty contact, our majors create outstanding real-world problem-solvers who excel in graduate programs, professional study in law or medicine, or high-paying careers in government, industry, and teaching.

student in class

A well-rounded experience.

Our students benefit from small classes and supportive professional relationships with their professors who all have master’s or doctoral degrees and affiliations with top professional associations. Students learn from and enjoy internships, faculty-mentored research, study abroad, employment as a tutor in the Math Tutoring Lab, and guest speakers in our Colloquium series and the Woods Lectures in Science and Mathematics. They become part of a caring academic community during monthly social events, student club activities, and academic competitions such as the Putman Exam and MAA Poster Contest.

Alumni Spotlight

I am so grateful for all the things I learned at Butler.

“I now have the opportunity to use so many skills that I gained as an undergrad. Not just mathematical skills, but also soft skills like the ability to read, write, and speak about applied mathematics. I really am pretty lucky in that way.” —Abigale Wynn ’19
