January Orientation

Butler January Orientation

Join Butler University Student Orientation Guides (SOGs), faculty, and staff for January Orientation on: Thursday, January 5, 2023 on Zoom.

January Orientation has been designed so that you will get all the key information you need before starting classes. Rest assured that you will have the opportunity to finish last-minute tasks, as well as meet other students.

Meet other new students on Zoom from 7:00 – 9:00 PM Eastern on January 5. Please look for a Zoom link invite via your Butler email to participate in this two hour session.

You and your family are encouraged to email Meg Haggerty, Director of the Office of New Student & Family Programs with any questions!

Complete Online Orientation Modules

Prior to a student’s orientation period, all new students must complete a series of online Orientation modules. These modules include academic resources; campus life resources; diversity, equity, and inclusion training modules; and AlcoholEdu.

  • Students will gain access to AlcoholEdu part 1 on December 16, 2022 and must complete the module by Friday, January 6, 2023.
  • Students will receive a separate email invitation on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 to complete the “U Got This!” course, as part of our comprehensive approach to sexual and relationship misconduct response and prevention.

This Canvas Course is asynchronous, and students can complete it at their own pace. The deadline to complete the modules is Friday, February 3, 2023. An invitation to participate in this course will be sent to students via their Butler email address and via Canvas.

The process to move-in and check-in to campus residences will be communicated to students via your Butler email the week of December 19, 2022.

The first dining plan meal of the semester begins on Monday, January 2 for breakfast.

If you have any food allergies or restrictions, please share those with food@butler.edu so that they can help you navigate your dining options. More information can be found on the Bon Appetit website.

Please allow two weeks’ advance notice prior to Butler’s winter break (December 23, 2022–January 2, 2023) in order to provide adequate time for arrangements to be made. Although attempts will be made to honor accommodation requests submitted with fewer than two weeks’ notice, it cannot be guaranteed that a reasonable accommodation can be provided.

The University does not have medical equipment available, such as wheelchairs, though rental information can be provided upon request.

If you wish to request disability-related accommodations during your academic studies at Butler, you must contact Student Disability Services directly at sds@butler.edu and arrange an individualized discussion.

Special rates are available at hotels that have partnered with Butler (subject to availability) during our fiscal year (June 2022-May 2023). Most hotels require that reservations be made two weeks in advance. When you call to make reservations, please identify yourself as a member of the Butler family and ask for the Butler rate.
