January Orientation Schedule
The Office of New Student & Family Programs welcomes you to January Orientation 2024!
Join us on Thursday, January 11 from 7:00–9:00 PM ET for a virtual meeting on Zoom where you’ll meet other new students and learn more about Orientation, which runs from Thursday, January 12 through Monday, January 15. The first day of classes is Tuesday, January 16.
A schedule of events is listed below. Please note: all times are in Eastern Time.
7:00 AM–9:00 PM Join other new and transfer students for this required Zoom session.
8:00 AM–12:00 PM, 1:00 PM–4:30 PM Office of Parking Services open
4702 Sunset Ave. (Parking Garage, Suite 500)
10:00 AM–12:00 PM Student check-in and move-in.
- Residential Students: Set arrival time for check-in is based on a student’s room location within the residence hall. This time is emailed closer to Orientation.
- Commuter Students: May arrive any time between 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
12:00 PM–1:00 PM Lunch
Students and families are welcome to enjoy lunch either on-campus or off.
If you wish to eat on campus, Atherton Marketplace is open from 10:30 AM—7:30 PM where students will be able to utilize meal plans via their ID cards. if looking for a close option, Chatham Tap is a restaurant & pub located on campus, 4702 Sunset Ave. (Parking Garage).
1:15 PM–3:20 PM Succeeding at Butler, Orientation Kick-Off

In this session, Butler students and families will be able to hear from and interact with a number of campus offices. This event is required for all incoming students. Families are also welcome to attend.
3:30 PM–5:00 PM
- Students: College MeetingsDugan Hall 121Incoming students will meet with members of their respective College. This event is required for all incoming students.
- Families: Supporting Your BulldogDugan Hall 118This session provides Butler families a chance to engage a few Butler student support services on campus.
5:30 PM–9:00 PM Dinner and Orientation Activity

All incoming students are welcome to join us for dinner at the Fashion Mall at Keystone Food Court followed by bowling at Royal Pin Woodward.

This engaging session will build skills of self-reflection, communication, trust, and appreciation for diversity. Required for all incoming students.
10:15 AM–11:05 AM Title IX Training

This session will explore elements of healthy relationships and provide an overview of Title IX processes. Required for all incoming students.
11:15 AM–11:45 AM Lunch

Incoming students will have a chance to ask questions with the January Student Orientation Guide leaders leading into the first day of classes.
3:00 PM–5:00 PM MLK Day Programming: MLK Love Walk
Reilly Room, Atherton Union, followed by 30-45 minute walk outside on Butler campus sidewalks and crosswalks
The Orientation team invites new students to attend this Diversity Program Council sponsored MLK Day event together.
Program description from the Diversity Program Council: Students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and families of all ages are invited to attend. From 3:00 to 4:00 PM, there will be a poster-making session in the Reilly Room (Atherton Union) for those interested in carrying signs during the walk. Then, at 4:00 PM, we will move to the stone bulldog outside of Atherton Union for a couple of speeches to kick off the walk. The walk should take roughly 30-45 minutes around Butler’s campus and will be conducted on sidewalks and crosswalks.
