Family Weekend
The dates are set for Family Weekend 2026! Mark your calendars for October 9–11, 2026. We look forward to welcoming families to campus for a weekend of connecting with their students and experiencing the Butler community together.
Family Weekend events are open to all Butler students and their families. Students are encouraged to participate with their families or join activities on their own.
What to expect
Family Weekend typically includes activities throughout the weekend, beginning Friday afternoon and evening, continuing throughout the day Saturday, and wrapping up Sunday afternoon. Families can choose the events that work best for their schedules—there is no expectation to attend everything. The weekend includes a mix of experiences:
- Free, come-and-go activities that do not require a ticket
- Butler ticketed sporting events
- Ticketed events and experiences, which can be purchased as part of the Family Weekend registration process

Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium Tour Holcomb Observatory & Planetarium
Come to the Holcomb Observatory for planetarium tours beginning at 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM followed by front patio telescope viewings, weather permitting. Doors open at 7:00 PM. Please note the large Observatory Telescope is under construction, but there will be other telescopes on the front lawn to use.
Admission is $5 for children and students under 18 years old and $8 for adults. Cash or credit is accepted at the door. Butler faculty, staff, and students are admitted at no charge with their Butler University ID.

The House of Bernarda Alba theatre production Lilly Hall Studio Theatre (Room 168)
Spanish playwright, director, musician, poet and a key champion of Spanish folklore, Federico García Lorca, reaches profound emotional depths in this work that has defined his monumental career.
After the death of Bernarda Alba’s second husband, the tyrannical matriarch imposes an oppressive mourning period on her five daughters. Tension and isolation take hold as the women struggle to imagine futures for themselves and vie for the one eligible bachelor left in town.
This production is recommended for audience members ages 15 and older.
The production runs approximately 60 minutes with no intermission. If tickets are purchased at the Clowes box office (Wednesday–Friday, 10:00 AM–4:00 PM) or at the door, there will be no fees.

Delta Tau Delta will be hosting its annual philanthropic event, a 3v3 basketball tournament, which raises money to support the Robert Packard Foundation for ALS Research. Visit Star Fountain where Bulldog Art Club will be hosting their Live Photo Booth. Members of the club and executive board members will be drawing quick portraits or group photos for a small price. First-Gen Dawgs will be tabling beside the Bulldog Art Club offering decorated paper frames and selling flowers. This is a fundraiser for both Bulldog Art Club (student organization) and First-Gen Dawgs (a student organization for students who are the first in their family to go to college).

The tour will highlight archival material such as letters from Butler University founder Ovid Butler, the 1980s Bulldog mascot head, legendary coach Tony Hinkle’s U.S. Navy programs, photographs from all three campus locations, 1930s track uniform, student scrapbook, fraternity and sorority life, and other items that make up the Butler University Archives.

Music at Butler: Butler University Choirs Schrott Center for the Arts
Join the Butler University Chorale, Spectra, and Chamber Singers for an evening full of music that honors the elements that comprise our world and the many aspects of ourselves. Butler University Chorale, an ensemble comprised of mixed (SATB) voices, will present its program, The Elements, featuring works by Frank Ticheli, Zanaida Robles, Daniel Pinkham, and more. Spectra, the university’s treble-voice ensemble (SSAA), will sing songs by composers and artists such as Joan Szymko, Carlos Cordero, and india.arie for its program, I Am, We Are. The concert will conclude with a combined work incorporating singers from all three ensembles.

Music at Butler: Butler Symphony Orchestra Schrott Center for the Arts
Join the Butler Symphony Orchestra’s season opening concert featuring two great, picturesque portrait symphonies. The landmark Afro-American Symphony by William Grant Still is a unique snapshot of folk themes and rhythmic vitality that contributed enormously to an American sound. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No.2 (“London”) is an impressionistic tone poem that takes the listener on an epic journey filled with folk themes and rich orchestrations that paint a thrilling sonic portrait of the great city of London.

Butler University RecWell Pickleball Courts Open 5114 Boulevard Place (north of Sellick Bowl)
Butler University has four fresh Pickleball courts that are open to those with a Butler ID. Families are welcome to join their students for a match! To access the courts, students should bring their Butler ID to swipe into the gate via the ID card reader. Open play hours run from 8:00 AM–10:00 PM with lights in the evening. If the courts are full, participants can “drop-in” to make it known they will be rotating in. If the courts are not full, participants can use whichever court they would like. Paddles and balls will be available for check-out at the HRC front desk, during operational hours, with a Butler University ID or RecWell membership.
