Water Use & Management
To reduce the campus community’s water consumption, Butler has implemented the following:
- Installation of low-flow water-saving devices for all new construction and restroom renovations, including low-flow urinals and faucets estimated to reduce the amount of water consumed by each unit by 87.5 percent
- Standard shower heads replaced with low-flow shower heads in the Apartment Village residence complex and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences addition constructed, which achieved LEED Gold
Butler also completed a “Complete Streets” green infrastructure project in cooperation with the City of Indianapolis to infiltrate rainwater on campus. Storm water runoff from the Hinkle Fieldhouse parking lot is captured via a rain garden, which is populated with local plants. Bike lanes and linear rain gardens along the adjacent road also help filter stormwater with pervious pavement.
