Fall 2026
A Biweekly Writing for Wellness Workshop Series
Facilitators: Mallory Martin and Olivia Currier
Writing isn’t just for term papers or lab reports—it can also be a powerful tool for your personal well-being. Fight, Flight, or Write is a biweekly workshop series designed to help you explore different journaling and writing techniques to better understand, process, and manage difficult emotions as well as physical or chronic pain.
Whether you are looking for new mindfulness strategies, trying to navigate everyday stress, or seeking a creative outlet for emotional release, this workshop offers a supportive space to pause and reflect.
What to expect
We know that personal and wellness writing can feel deeply intimate, so we’ve designed this series to prioritize your comfort and agency above all else:
- Short & Focused Instruction: Each 60-minute session begins with a brief, insightful mini-lecture introducing a specific journaling method, coping strategy, or guided prompt. You’ll also receive practical handouts to take home with you.
- Low-Pressure Practice & Individual Writing Time: Following the brief lesson, you’ll have dedicated, quiet time to try out the techniques yourself and write in real time.
- Optional Discussion: If you feel inspired to share your thoughts or discuss the day’s topic with fellow students, you’ll be warmly invited to do so. Prefer to keep your writing private? That is 100% okay! You are always welcome to focus solely on independent, quiet practice without any pressure to share.
What you’ll take away
- Practical, research-backed journaling prompts and techniques you can use anytime, anywhere.
- Dedicated time built into your week to check in with yourself and process stress.
- Helpful takeaway handouts to build your personal wellness toolkit.
- A low-stakes, flexible space that respects your privacy while supporting your personal growth.
No prior creative writing experience required—just bring yourself, something to write on, and a willingness to explore!

Each month features two sessions focused on a single creative medium. The first session of the month offers an all-encompassing deep dive, while the second session zooms in on specialized techniques.
- Fiction Month: Explore the mechanics of immersive world-building (setting, magic systems, character dynamics, and stakes) and natural dialogue.
- Poetry Month: Dive into rhythm, meter, hip-hop lyricism, musicality, and visual poetry forms like ekphrasis and blackout poetry.
- Screenwriting Month: Master standard screenplay formatting, learn how screenwriting differs from prose, and build cinematic conflict.
- Short & Flash Fiction Month: Learn the art of high-impact short stories, explore literary magazine publishing, and distill big ideas into short-form fiction.
