Summer School Aid
Financial aid for summer is limited. It typically includes loan assistance and sometimes a federal grant; Butler gift assistance is not available for the summer session.
Students are notified via their Butler email in late March of their summer aid eligibility after they enroll in their summer 2026 classes. Students are encouraged to review and accept their loan(s) in the Financial Aid tile of my.butler.edu.
Please note that financial aid for the upcoming fall and spring semesters cannot be used to pay for summer 2026 charges.
See complete list of summer tuition and fees.
For Federal Pell Grant eligibility, students should:
- File the 2025-2026 FAFSA before June 30, 2026, and have completed their Financial Aid file.
- Be eligible for Federal Pell Grant for the 2025-2026 academic year.
- Enroll in a minimum of 1 credit hour for the summer.
For Federal Direct Loan eligibility:
- Undergraduate students must enroll in at least 6 credit hours.
- Graduate students must enroll in at least 3 credit hours.
- Students who have not used their Federal Direct Loan eligibility from the academic year preceding the summer session will be offered the remaining eligibility up to the summer cost of attendance.
- Graduate students who have exhausted their Federal Direct Loan eligibility may be eligible to borrow their remaining Federal Direct Loan eligibility or Federal Direct PLUS Loan program but must have the loan finalized and in place before June 30, 2026.
- Dependent undergraduate students who have limited or no remaining Federal Direct Loan eligibility can talk with their parents about utilizing the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan program to help with remaining educational costs.
- Independent undergraduate students who have limited or no remaining Federal Direct Loan eligibility can consider using private education loans to help with remaining educational costs.
Students enrolled in less than half-time credit hours (below 6 hours for undergraduate programs or under 3 hours for graduate programs):
- May still seek an additional loan through private education loans.
- Pay out of pocket in the Student Center on my.butler.edu. Monthly payment plans are not available for the summer session.
