LAHWF

Happy Thursday to all! I am quite fond of YouTube, and I have recently been really into a channel called LAHWF.

LAHWF (Losing All Hope Was Freedom) is run by a man named Andrew Hales. Hales, with the help of his friends, performs social experiments and films them for his 531,000 subscribers. His videos range from holding people hands, to whispering “needy” things to people. He also has a video where he tells strangers corny jokes, which is great, because I sometimes do that!

All of his videos are really funny and awkward because no one knows how to react to the strange things he does. Basically, I have started living vicariously through Andrew Hales.

In other news, I got recognized for my blog by a stranger in Starbucks the other night. It was super exciting and was the second time I’ve been recognized by someone. #InternetFamous #OnMyWay

Also, tomorrow afternoon is an acoustic concert in Holcolm Gardens for Peace Week. I mentioned on Monday that it is Peace Week, and what sounds more ideal than listening to some tunes whilst sitting in the beautiful place that is Holcolm Gardens? Nothing, that’s what. The concert is from 3-5 p.m. Be there or be square.

Have a great end to the week and thanks for reading :)

Music Monday: Passenger

Happy Music Monday, all! As you may or may not know, this week is Peace Week. When I think of peace, I think of calm. Since it is Music Monday, let’s talk about calm music. Let’s talk about Passenger.

Passenger (his real name is Mike Rosenberg) is a one man Indie-pop/folk band from Brighton, England. Passenger originally consisted of Rosenberg and four band mates, but they broke up in 2007 after only recording one album. After the breakup, Rosenberg decided to keep the name “Passenger” and pursue a solo career.

Passenger released his first solo album, Wide Eyes Blind Love, in 2009, and has since released Flight of the Crow, and All the Little Lights. Passenger has an incredibly unique voice, and all of his music is pretty mellow. His lyrics are also really good! His most popular song is “Let Her Go,” and he has also recorded a mash-up of “No Diggity” and “Thrift Shop” with Ed Sheeran. It is rockin’. My favorite song of his is “I Hate” because it is about all of the dumb things that people do. Not very peaceful, but it is very clever.

Have a wonderfully peaceful week, and thanks for reading :)

Mermaids Are Real

Happy Wednesday everyone! A lot of strange things exist on the Internet, and I have seen something a little odd these past two days. Since yesterday afternoon, I have seen two articles about people who impersonate mermaids. Totally casual.

I saw the first article about real-life mermaids yesterday on Yahoo.com. A woman named Linden Wolbert works as a mermaid at various parties and charity events, and can even hold her breath for up to 5 minutes (she used to be a freediver). While “mermaiding” as a job might seem justifiable, Eric Ducharme dons a mermaid tale for fun.

Wolbert in action.

I saw the article about Ducharme this afternoon, and after seeing my second mermaid article in two days, I thought this was too strange to ignore. Ducharme can also hold his breath for minutes at a time, but he “mermaids” for fun. When I was younger, I used to lay on my bedroom floor with a pillowcase around my legs and pretend that I had a mermaid tail, so I’m not gonna say that I wouldn’t want to swim around with a sparkly tail on in my spare time…

Have a wonderful rest of the week and thanks for reading :)

Music Monday: Coeur de pirate

Happy Music Monday, all! I hope everyone had a fabulous Easter weekend and is ready to finish the semester strong! Only four weeks left. Yikes.

Today, I would like to talk about Ceour de pirate. Coeur de pirate (her real name is Béatrice Martin) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. She sings almost all of her songs in French, but she does have a few English songs. She released a song in English called “One for Me” under the name Pearls, and also did a sick cover of “Wicked Games” by The Weekend.

Her cover of “Wicked Games” is one of my favorite songs because it is far better than the original. Her voice is so pure sounding, and it is a little chilling and creepy. Unfortunately, the song drops the f-bomb throughout, so I can’t post the video on here, but I will post a link to it below!

Since I loved “Wicked Games” so much when I heard it, I looked up some other songs by her, but they are all in French so I don’t understand what she is saying. Fortunately, she is rumored to be working on some English music, so I can love her even more once it is released.

Here’s the link to “Wicked Games.” Seriously, check it out. Have a great week, and thanks for reading :)

Blue II’s Birthday

Happy Friday everyone! Today is Butler Blue II’s birthday. The former mascot is turning 9 today, and there was a big party in the bookstore and Starbucks earlier this afternoon. There were cameras, cookies, cupcakes, and a lot of people. Let me remind you that Blue II is a dog.

A picture of Blue II.

Personally, I have nothing against Blue II. He’s been our school mascot for many years and everybody loves him. The thing I don’t understand is why there was a birthday party for a dog. All I know is that I have never had such a bangin’ party (my family forgot my birthday once, but that’s a story for another time), and I’d like to think I’m more likeable than a bulldog. Apparently not. Apparently no human being is more likeable than an bulldog because I have never heard of the news being at an average human’s birthday bash.

I’m not complaining exactly because I would by lying to you if I said I didn’t take advantage of the free Insomnia Cookies at the party, but I would also be lying if I said that I thought throwing a dog a birthday party was a casual thing to do. Oh well, whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I was informed that Tripp’s birthday falls over Christmas break, so I wonder what the party situation will be for his birthday next year. We should probably have one party before break and one once we come back, just to be safe. I mean, that’s the logical thing to do. As long as there are free cookies, I guess it’s alright.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading :)

Advising and Art Stress

Happy Thursday to all! We have about one month left of the semester, and you know what that means- it’s time for advising appointments and end of the year shenanigans! I blogged last semester about how stressful it was to figure out my schedule, but I wasn’t nearly as stressed this time around.

Although my advising appointment didn’t give me too much worry, all of my art projects most certainly have. I have mentioned many a time before that I am an Art + Design major. I absolutely, positively love being an art major, but there is quite a lot happening in the art department these days, so I am wigging out a bit.

My most recent project.

The biggest thing I have to do is create a body of work.

For the body of work, the class has to make 5-10 pieces that are related through a concept, and we have to have them done to present at Art Now. Initially, I was going to go to Value World and buy items from the song “Thrift Shop” and create my own interpretation of the song through photographs, but I wasn’t totally feeling it. My new idea was inspired by a video of strangers sitting in a ball pit and asking each other questions so they wouldn’t be strangers when they left the pit (the video is below!).

As you know from reading my blog, I am all about becoming friends with strangers. I am really curious about people’s relationships and how they come to meet and grow in friendship, so I am going to create spaces and instances that, like the ball pit, encourage strangers to interact. I am going to document these interactions through photos and writing, so it’s different from most other projects I have done. This type of art is called relational art because it is about human relationships, rather than a tangible piece of artwork. I’m kind of nervous that no one will want to participate, but you better believe I’m going to try!!

In other kind of artsy-related news, I got an Instagram, so you should follow me!

BuzzFeed.com

Happy Friday everyone! The first day of spring officially started on Wednesday, and as a result, the weather today is glorious! Huzzah! Do you know what else is glorious? The Internet.

Over spring break, I was officially introduced to a website called BuzzFeed.com. BuzzFeed is basically a website that has funny articles about pop culture, celebrities, and other ridiculous happenings on the Internet. One of my favorite articles I have read so far is “42 Things That Prove That Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the Perfect Man.” So great.

I stumbled upon an article yesterday about Butler basketball player Andrew Smeathers. During the game against Bucknell, after an exciting three-point play, Smeathers clapped, giggled, and threw up “the three monocle.” For some reason, everybody freaked out (in a good way) when he did this.

Iconic.

This image has been all over Facebook, showing up as people’s cover photos, and as gifs being posted on people’s walls. I’m not sure what the fascination is, but I do think it’s pretty cool that BuzzFeed wrote an article about it.

Anyway, Buzzfeed has plenty of articles to choose from, and is a definite winner for anyone who enjoys pop culture or the Internet. If this appeals to you, check it out man!

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading :)

My Observations, Part II

Happy Wednesday! I did a post about my observations last semester, and since then I have observed a few more things. Here are my recent observations.

1. Girls love posing with their hand on their hip. If you look on ANY form of social media, you will see an uncountable number of pictures in which girls have their hand on their hip. I am indeed guilty of doing this as well, and I hate myself for it. It really gets me and I feel like an a-hole every time I do it, but if the other people in the picture are doing it and you just leave your hand by your side, you will look awkward. It’s inevitable. And this is why being a girl is a constant struggle.

Sooo classic.

2. Saying “struggz” is a thing now. Apparently whenever you are struggling (or riding the struggle bus as I like to say), an exasperated sigh followed by groaning, “Ughh struggz!” is a proper way of dealing with your distress. I am a culprit of using dumb abbreviations and slang such as “totes,” “probs,” “presh,” and of course “YOLO,” but for some reason the use of “struggz” bothers me a bit.

3. People don’t know how to use a dollar sign. For example, if something costs six dollars, a vast majority of people write “6$.,” rather than correctly writing it as “$6.” Dude, did you not go to grade school?! The dollar sign comes before the numeral. I truly see more people misuse the dollar sign than I see them use it correctly, and that is SAD!

4. Using “y’all” in everyday conversation is not just for people from the south. I have noticed an increasing number of mid-western people using the term “y’all” on a fairly regular basis. I have used it when typing before, and have noticed it subconsciously creeping in to my vocabulary. I don’t know why this started, or when, but it seems as if everyone is saying it now.

I will most certainly have some more observations in the near future, but these are the most prominent at the moment.

Have a great rest of the week and thanks for reading :)

Music Monday: Justin Timberlake

Happy Monday everyone, and welcome back to school! The weather today is a little dreary and everyone most likely has the back-to-school blues, so allow me to cheer you up by discussing Justin Timberlake on this wonderful Music Monday.

I’m not sure if you were aware, but Justin Timberlake IS ON FIRE!!!! It all started on March 9th when the singer-turned-actor-turned-singer hosted Saturday Night Live, marking the fifth time he hosted the show. I usually don’t watch SNL because I feel like it truly isn’t that funny anymore, but this episode was pretty great. The opening monologue included other great celebs who had appeared on the show at least five times before, such as Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, and Paul Simon. As if that weren’t a great enough start, Timberlake was also the musical guest for the evening. Well played NBC, well played.

Look at that dazzling smile.

The following week (March 11-15), Justin appeared on every episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, starring in skits and promoting his newest album The 20/20 Experience. While on the show, Timberlake flawlessly performed several songs from his album and sang the History of Rap Part 4 with Jimmy Fallon.

If that wasn’t enough, JT’s album comes out tomorrow. This album is his third studio album as a solo artist, and is considered his “comeback” since his last album was released six years ago. It has already been rumored that he will release another album in November. #Unstoppable. I have only heard the songs he performed on SNL and Fallon’s show, but from these few songs I heard, I have concluded that Justin Timberlake is indeed the most soulful white man you will ever encounter.

In fact, Justin Timberlake is most likely one of the most talented men you will ever encounter. It has been scientifically proven that there is nothing he can’t do. He can sing (very soulfully), he can dance (incredibly well), he can act (he’s hosted SNL five times, duh!), and he got married earlier this year. Oh, and not to mention, he is an incredibly handsome dude! I’m not saying he is an Oscar worthy actor, but he is extraordinarily talented musician and performer. Seriously, just look at the past week he has had and try and tell me that he is not incredible. You can’t, you just can’t.

Have a great week and thanks for reading :)
