Our foundation for a transformative and holistic Butler experience.
Through BU|BeWell, we foster a positive environment that helps students, faculty, and staff grow, learn, and be the best version of themselves.
The BU|BeWell Framework
Butler provides many robust opportunities to develop, both inside and outside of the classroom, through each of the eight dimensions of BU|BeWell.
NIRSA and NASPA’s statement, Health and Wellbeing in Higher Education: A Commitment to Student Success, highlights strategic commitments from both associations in pursuit of innovating, supporting, and fostering a holistic, integrated, and strategic approach to wellbeing. BU|BeWell is a best practice as identified by NIRSA and NASPA.
The Eight Dimensions
Mind & Body
Identifying and caring for physical and emotional needs, and the awareness of influences that impact overall health.
Diversity & Inclusion
Understanding one’s own background and identities and how they might differ from others in our multicultural world. Learning about and respecting diverse cultures and supporting an environment where everyone is welcome.
Promoting wellbeing through personal growth in academics, lifelong learning, and engaging new ideas.
Creating harmony in one’s relationships with others, demonstrating effective communication skills, developing the capacity for health intimacy, and cultivating a support network of caring friends.
Service & Community
Strengthening community through service and shared interests, both within Butler and the greater Indianapolis area.
Career & Life Skills
Building and maintaining successful skills for future or current careers, including internships, employment, and financial planning.
Meaning & Purpose
Reflecting on one’s values and beliefs, intentionally discerning goals and contributions, and exploring meaningful steps toward actualizing one’s future.
Cultivating a healthy space for learning through shared interests in protecting the environment, caring for campus, and advancing Butler’s future in sustainable ways.
