Community Engagement

One area of civic engagement that Butler is proud to promote is service. The Office of Service and Community Engagement seeks to connect Butler students with service and philanthropy opportunities in the Indianapolis community and beyond, and strives to engage in meaningful work and education around social justice issues and personal development.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is home to fourteen Greek-lettered organizations, where members contribute more than 20,000 hours of service to over 200 Indianapolis area nonprofits, while also fundraising year-round for their respective philanthropies. Students can subscribe to the Volunteer Newsletter here in order to receive updates on upcoming service opportunities and learn more about local Indianapolis organizations.

Additional opportunities for civic engagement and education include The Efroymson Diversity Center and The COMPASS Center’s Deliberative Dialogues and programming. Students are also encouraged to engage with their local governments, write to their representatives, attend city-county council meetings, and educate themselves on the issues from all sides.
