5:00-6:00 PM
Fairview Community Room
This non-partisan presentation will focus on the growing importance of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters in the 2024 election. Here in Indiana, the number of eligible AAPI voters surged 58% between 2012 and 2022. AAPI voters matter not only because they are growing in number, but because they are often the margin of victory due to their location in swing states and in districts with competitive races. However, AAPI voters, like Black and Brown voters, have historically had low turnout rates.
Dr. Borja will explore how AAPI voters are influencing key races and share insights into the political engagement of Asian American communities as voters, candidates, and organizers. The session will also touch on local opportunities for Butler students to promote civic engagement within these communities, and current trends within the Indianapolis area.
