New Student Registration
An important milestone in the new student journey.
During New Student Registration, you’ll have an advising appointment with a faculty or staff member, schedule your first semester of classes, and learn more about your academic college. Your academic advising appointment will be held with the College of your primary major. In addition to the academic advising appointment, you will be asked to complete an online New Student Registration course in Canvas.
Timeline
Everything kicks off with receiving your College Welcome Letter via email. This letter marks the official start of the New Student Registration (NSR) process and outlines your next steps. The timing of receiving your letter depends on when you complete all required steps:
- Submit your enrollment deposit
- Complete all required placement exams
- Submit verified test scores (if you applied as test-submitting). If you’re test-optional, placement exams are the only additional step after you deposit.
Use the timeline below to estimate when you’ll receive your welcome email:
- All steps completed before April 8 → Welcome letter sent April 13
- Completed between April 9 – April 22 → April 27
- Completed between April 23 – May 13 → May 18
- Completed between May 14 – May 27 → June 1
- Completed between May 28 – June 10 → June 15
- Completed between June 11 – June 30 → July 6
- Completed between July 1 – July 15 → July 20
- Completed after July 15 → Sent within one week of completing all required steps
New Student Registration appointments for incoming fall 2026 students will be offered starting in April and are conducted virtually. See below for a high-level overview of the steps, unique to each college. Your Welcome Letter will have more specific details.
Placement exams
Completing placement exams is a required task for New Student Registration and for enrollment. Students will receive access to their required exams after paying the $500 enrollment deposit. Results are for placement purposes only, and a faculty or staff member will share them with students during the academic advising appointment when discussing appropriate courses to fit the student’s academic plan.
Placement exams become available to incoming students in early November. Students who finish the required placement exams by December 1 will then move through the New Student Registration process. In general, we recommend completing placement exams as soon as possible after gaining access to ensure an efficient advising process.
Placement exams become available to incoming students in early February. Students who finish the required placement exams by April 1 will be included in the first group to move through the New Student Registration process. In general, we recommend completing placement exams within two weeks of gaining access to ensure an efficient advising process.
Join us on Wednesday, March 25, for a webinar on understanding New Student Registration. We’ll go over what to expect, how to prepare, and required next steps.
