Student Groups

Health Sciences Student Assembly (HSSA)

This is considered to be the “umbrella” organization over all College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS) organizations. HSSA is comprised of a representative from each COPHS student organization and a class officer. Any COPHS student is welcome to attend any of the monthly meetings. HSSA representatives also serve on College committees with faculty to offer ideas and feedback on programs, student services, and class needs. HSSA representatives have made significant contributions to the revision of course evaluations, cluster exam schedules, the Student Handbook, pharmacy and PA professional orientations, classroom needs, and other policies that affect the student body of COPHS.

PA Club (PAC)

The Butler PA Club is the official student organization affiliated with the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA). The club connects students to the profession at the local, state, and national levels. Joining the Butler PA Club means connecting with peers, growing as a leader, serving the community, and actively engaging in the PA profession from day one. Through leadership opportunities, advocacy involvement, and community engagement, members build professional relationships while shaping the future of the PA profession. Student leaders serve as liaisons to AAPA ensuring Butler students have a voice beyond campus.

Pi Alpha

Pi Alpha is the national PA honor society organized for the promotion and recognition of significant academic achievement, leadership, research, community and professional service through the encouragement of a high standard of character and conduct among both PA students and graduates. The Butler University chapter of Pi Alpha was chartered in 2005. Students have an opportunity to apply for induction to the Pi Alpha honor society during their experiential year of education in Butler’s PA Program.

PA Partners in Success

The Butler PA Partners in Success mentoring program is a student run program that aims to match new incoming MPAS1 students with MPAS2 students. This program connects students with a mentor that can answer their questions and concerns about PA school and help them navigate their first year. The program pairs students with mentors based on personal preferences to help make the transition into the MPAS1 year smoothly.

Ultrasound Club

The Butler PA Ultrasound Club provides PA students with hands-on exposure to point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) throughout the didactic year. Led by second-year PA students, the club offers small-group practice sessions where first-year students can build foundational scanning skills in a supportive, peer-led learning environment.

As ultrasound continues to expand across emergency medicine, primary care, critical care, and specialty practice, POCUS is rapidly becoming an essential clinical skill for modern PAs. The Ultrasound Club introduces students to the emerging and evolving role of bedside ultrasound in patient assessment, diagnosis, and procedural guidance.

By participating in guided scanning sessions and collaborative practice, students gain early confidence with ultrasound technology while strengthening their clinical reasoning and physical exam skills. The Ultrasound Club fosters mentorship, skill development, and enthusiasm for this growing area of PA practice.

Project Access

Project Access is a program where PAs and PA students visit middle and high schools to talk to students who are underrepresented in medicine about the PA profession. The goal is to introduce the profession to students and allow students to ask questions about the PA profession as an option in healthcare.

Emergency Medicine Club (EM Club)

The purpose of this club is to give students an opportunity to explore Emergency Medicine (EM) as a potential career, discuss EM topics, meet with local PAs practicing in EM, and set themselves apart from others as someone with a clear and lasting interest in EM when it comes time to find a job. Students in the experiential year of the PA Program can join EM Club and engage in monthly meetings and networking opportunities.

PA Official Wellness and Exercise Regiment (POWER Club)

The PA Official Wellness and Exercise Regiment (POWER) is dedicated to empowering Physician Assistant students to prioritize their own health and wellness while adjusting to the demands of the rigorous PA program and profession. By focusing on personal wellness, resilience, education, holistic health, and nutrition, our club fosters a supportive community that encourages accountability, physical strength, mental well-being, and the adoption of sustainable healthy habits. The club aims to nurture a culture of wellness that extends beyond our campus and into our professional lives. We will educate PA students to effectively teach and motivate their future patients and peers to implement similar healthy practices, ensuring that these principles are passed on and adopted widely in patient care.
