Fellowship Application
Fellows must have graduated from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy, or otherwise eligible for licensure as a pharmacist, prior to the start of the fellowship term. All applicants must be US citizens. Candidates who do not meet this requirement should not apply.

Medication Error, Pharmacovigilance, and Risk Management with Butler/Regeneron
Global Patient Safety and Pharmacovigilance with Butler/Lilly
The primary objectives of the program are for the fellow to:
- Examine career options within academic, pharmaceutical industry, medical, and regulatory environments.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the key elements of an academic environment and faculty roles within it.
- Explore various medical and regulatory components of pharmaceutical development and innovation.
- Develop an understanding of regulations and patient safety considerations regarding medication use.
- Construct expertise in patient and medication safety, focusing on tools and methods to make healthcare safer.
- Demonstrate personal, interpersonal, and teamwork skills critical for effective leadership.
- Focus on regulatory approaches in addressing risk management and medication error related issues associated with currently marketed drug and biologic products.
- Contribute to advancing the science of risk management and medication error prevention and analysis.
- Develop and understanding of pharmaceutical risk management tools available to assess and mitigate the risks of drug and biologic products.
- Enhance scientific writing skills.
- Engage at scientific conferences to network with other professionals in industry.
Proposed activities completed as part of this program include:
- Coordinating and teaching the Medication Safety elective course at Butler University.
- Lecturing for various classes at Butler University and leading small group discussion.
- Designing new patient safety lectures and related content,
- Completing the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program (IPTeC).
- Participating in the Butler University Pharmacy Leadership Program (certificate program).
- Conducting Research and exploring publication opportunities.
- Completing Individualized faculty rotations in interest areas.
- Taking advantage of professional development resources.
- Personalized mentorship and career planning activities.
- Practice-based experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Providing a final report describing the findings of the research project.
- Presenting the findings internally and externally to stakeholders as appropriate.
Fellows will begin with a 6-month academic rotation at Butler University, followed by an 18-month industry experience either at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals or Eli Lilly and Company. The fellow will be spending a majority of their time at the industry partner. The FDA has been an integral part of this fellowship, and we are hopeful to continue with their partnership. Due to the dynamic environment, we have identified additional opportunities for incoming fellows to gain safety and regulatory experience with the industry partners. While we cannot guarantee that fellows will have the opportunity to rotate through the FDA, we are confident that this fellowship will continue to provide high-quality experiences.
