Science Library

Closed for more than a year as part of the Science Complex Renovations, the Ruth Lilly Science Library re-opened August 25 2021.

Located on the 2nd floor of the Holcomb Building, the Science Library has both a fresh new look (more windows, seats, whiteboards, and study rooms), as well as updated services and policies.

Butler Libraries’ Information Commons program (a collaboration with the Center for Academic Technology) now staffs the service desk, offering the same services also available at Irwin Library, with updated hours during Irwin’s summer 2022 closure. During the hours the IC Desk is staffed, the front entry doors will unlocked and accessible without a campus ID.

Butler students enjoy 24/7 access to the both the stacks area study space, as well as the front room which contains a copier/scanner/printer, a small meeting space reservable via EMS, and a computer lab. Card swipe access will always be required to access the stacks area, so be sure to have your ID on you when entering and exiting the library.

Members of the public not affiliated with the university are not permitted in the card-access restricted stacks area, nor the front computer lab. If you are not a member of the Butler community and would like to review a book held at the Science Library, please contact us at https://buanswers.butler.edu/

A self-checkout station is available in the stacks study space, and security cameras and gates have been updated to provide control of materials despite the 24/7 access.

We are still working through re-supplying and staffing the Science Library after its complete renovation, so please contact us with questions or needs at https://buanswers.butler.edu.
