Study Rooms

Irwin Library has individual and group study rooms available exclusively to students as well as a few study carrels available for use by current Butler University students, faculty, and staff.

Individual Study Rooms

Rooms 003, 028, 216, 228, and 318 in Irwin Library are individual study rooms which are intended for use by 1—2 people. All of these except for 028 can be reserved in advance and are only available to Butler students. Reservations can be made online or at the Information Commons Desk and are available in one hour increments with a limit of 4 hours per person, per day; reservations longer than 4 hours will be canceled by Library staff. If a room is not reserved at least two hours in advance, we cannot guarantee its availability. Any rooms not checked out within 15 minutes of the reservation time are subject to cancellation at the library's discretion.

Reserve a room using our online system. You must register as a new user the first time you use the system. Please use your Butler email address and create a password. You should receive a confirmation email at the time of scheduling, as well as a reminder email before your scheduled reservation.

If the rooms are all reserved and you need a study space, please contact Information Commons. Staff may be able to locate additional study space in the library.

Room 028 is an open study room available on a first come, first serve basis.

Dry erase Marker Kits

We have several dry erase marker kits available for students to checkout along with their study room. These kits come with a variety of marker colors and an eraser and are loaned out for up to 4 hours. Overdue and billing information can be found on the Equipment page.

Study Carrels

A limited number of study carrels are available for student or faculty use. These carrels are located on the second level of Irwin Library. The carrels can lock, but they are not completely enclosed and thus should not be used for storing valuable items. If you are interested in obtaining a study carrel for a semester, please contact Information Commons.
