Study Rooms

Irwin Library has individual and group study rooms available exclusively to current Butler University students. Due to concerns related to COVID-19, study room capacity has been temporarily adjusted.

Individual Study Rooms

Rooms 003, 028, 204, 206, 216, 228, and 318 in Irwin Library are individual study rooms which are intended for use by 1 person. All of these can be reserved up to a week in advance and are only available to current Butler students. Reservations can be made online or at the Information Commons Desk and are available in one hour increments with a limit of 4 hours per person, per day. If a room is not reserved at least two hours in advance, we cannot guarantee its availability. Any rooms not checked out within 15 minutes of the reservation time are subject to cancellation at the library's discretion.

Group Study Rooms

Rooms 026, 215, 226, 230, 238, and 306 in Irwin Library are group study rooms which are intended for use by 2 people.

Making a Reservation

Reserve a room using our online system. Group and individual study rooms are listed separately on the reservation page. Choose your room and reservation start time from the calendar view, then, below the calendar, choose your reservation end time and click "Submit Times". Log in with your Butler email and password, enter your first and last name, click "Submit My Booking", and your reservation is confirmed. You will receive a confirmation email at the time of scheduling. Due to COVID-19 precautions, study room keys are not currently being checked out, so your confirmation email is all you need. Students are welcome to use an unoccupied study room but must yield to a group/individual with a reservation.

If the rooms are all reserved and you need a study space, please contact Information Commons. Staff may be able to locate additional study space in the library.

Dry erase Marker Kits

We have several dry erase marker kits available for students to checkout along with their study room. These kits come with a variety of marker colors and an eraser and are loaned out for up to 4 hours. Overdue and billing information can be found on the Equipment page.
