These former executives worked at companies such as Cummins, Anthem, Roche, and IBM and have significant professional business experience. Career mentors help students discover career paths and interests—and how to structure their time at Butler to meet their goals.

Associate Director, Career and Professional Success. Primarily supporting career development in the Lacy School of Business.
Through student programming and partnerships with faculty and valued employer partners, our goal is to maintain the Lacy School of Business 99% placement rate.
Undergraduate degree from Ball State University and MBA from Indiana State.
Lori has worked in academia for 17+ years in different capacities including lecturer, academic advisor and career consultant.
Ed Friel left the corporate world on a Friday in 2008, and joined Butler University the following Monday as an Executive Career Mentor. Ed started his business career in sales and marketing with Cummins Inc, Columbus IN. in 1964, and had been Vice President-Marketing for Cummins Crosspoint in Indianapolis since 1991.
Following graduation from Duke University, Michael was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy. He served tours of duty on three warships, worked on the Pentagon Command Staff, and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Following the Navy, Michael started a business career in accounting and finance. He earned the Certified Management Accounting (CMA) and Six Sigma Black Belt accreditations, and moved into corporate operations management and shared services. Michael held Director positions at two multi-$B US corporations prior to joining the IT services and consulting industry with The Altran Group.
In 2010, Michael joined Converga Ltd, a New Zealand Post Company, at its headquarters in Sydney, Australia. There he led a startup software business specializing in corporate financial applications. After establishing the business over a 2-year period, he returned to the United States to start another Converga entity as its General Manager and Vice President. The US company specialized in Business Process Outsourcing with a focus in document and data automation, providing value added solutions that interfaced directly into clients’ IT infrastructure. After five years leading this startup and building it into a successful company, New Zealand Post sold it to Canon Global.The US company then expanded overseas, first into the EU and then to the rest of EMEA. It delivered similar IT solutions but in multi-country and multi-language applications.
In 2020, Michael joined Canon Business Process Services (CBPS) as part of the US company’s transfer to that Canon business entity. Michael is both an Entrepreneurship Mentor and a Career Mentor at Butler University’s Lacy School of Business in Indianapolis. He has an MBA in Operations Management from The Olin School of Business at Washington University in St Louis. He resides in Carmel, Indiana with his spouse, Mary, and dog, Chai. His children are both graduates of Butler University.
I graduated with a Purdue degree in electrical engineering technology. I then spent 36 years at IBM first as an engineer then in sales, followed by a couple of other jobs outside of IBM. I enjoy bicycling, sailing, camping, traveling and helping students build their lives.

Chad has been in IT since he was 13, teaching his first class to eight- and nine-year-old’s BASIC on Timex Sinclair Z80 computers. All the way through his undergraduate Integrated Science (ISP) and Mathematics double major at Northwestern, he worked with and around computers, landing a Systems Analyst role at Eli Lilly and Company right out of school. After six years at Lilly, he and his family took a brief side trip to Evansville, Indiana at the corporate offices of Shoe Carnival to help them out of a technical mess before returning to Indianapolis as a Systems Consultant with C/Soft (Haverstick) for a few years.
Teaching himself networking online and acquiring multiple Cisco networking certifications, Chad then jumped to a Network Engineer and Data and Networking Department Manager at Communications Products where he enjoyed projects in telecommunications and security for almost seven years. His first stint at Butler was coming on to join the IT team as a network engineer in 2006. After a few team lead roles in IT, he became the Director of Systems and Infrastructure in 2012 and then moved to Senior Director of Technology Development in 2014. In 2017, after working on a joint project, Chad left Butler to join Butler Business Consulting Group client MJ Insurance as their first Chief Information Officer.
After guiding a complete technology restoration, and adapting MJ to remote work during the pandemic of 2020, he left after four years for a career change, starting a Masters’ degree in Educational Psychology and becoming an adjunct professor. He was hired full-time as a Lecturer in the Lacy School of Business at Butler in 2023.
George T. Newhart, Jr., B.S., MBA, CPA, CGMA.
Retired Automotive and Electronics Industries executive. Served in all areas of operational and corporate accounting and finance, with major organizations that included Fiat Chrysler, Panduit, and Emhart (now Stanley /Black & Decker).
Graduate of Butler University, holding a BS degree in Accounting and an MBA degree. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and in 2012, was awarded certification as Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). The CGMA designation serves as recognition of extensive background and experience in international financial management.
Currently serve as Chairman of the Board of Scecina Memorial High School in Indianapolis. Also serve as Executive and Finance Committee member.
Originally from Indianapolis and have lived and worked in Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati and South Bend/Elkhart, Indiana. Currently live in Fishers, Indiana, where I moved to after retirement, to be near family and close friends.
Taught at the undergraduate and graduate level, in an adjunct role, during and after working career, at Marian University, Indiana University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Anderson University. Courses taught included accounting, finance, economics and strategic planning.
Currently serve as an Executive Career Mentor in the Butler University Lacy School of Business.
Member of the American Institute of CPA’s and the Indiana Society of CPA’s.
Administrative Support
Taiylor supports all Lacy School of Business career development initiatives, primarily focusing on the required internships and mentoring program.
She has worked in higher education and early career talent development for 5 years across various organizations and roles. Taiylor completed a Bachelor of Arts in English from IUPUI and a Master of Science in Education (Higher Education and Student Affairs) from IU Bloomington.
