The study abroad programs in this section have been approved for the participation of Butler undergraduate students. Three types of programs are represented on this list:

  • Faculty-Led – a group of Butler students led by a Butler faculty member. This includes the programs listed under the Butler Faculty-Led Short Term Programs and Butler Faculty-Led Programs: Semester sections.
  • Exchange – students “exchange” places with a student at a university abroad and become a student at their host university for a semester. This includes the BU Exchange and ISEP Exchange programs listed under each region of the world. Placements are not guaranteed.
  • 3rd Party Provider – providers are organizations that create study abroad programs for American students. There is a lot of additional support provided throughout the experience, including on-site resident staff, excursions, and cultural activities. This includes any program listed under each region of the world that does not have “Exchange” in the header. Providers include: IFSA, CEA CAPA, SIT, IES Abroad, and more.

Other programs we offer are run by outside organizations—these programs, 3rd Party Provider programs, are available for American students interested in studying in a specific location. One of these 3rd Party Providers is the Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA), founded on Butler’s campus in 1988. IFSA is one of the main study abroad program providers for Butler students. While all of IFSA’s programs are high quality, only the programs included in this section are part of Butler’s approved programs.

An asterisk (*) indicates that there is a language requirement for that program.

Please note that the availability of programs through certain providers may fluctuate and not all the programs on this list will be available for every semester.
