Esports at Butler University goes beyond pure gaming excellence and serves as a vehicle to provide students with opportunities to grow academically, competitively, and professionally. Founded in 2017 as a student-led initiative, Butler Esports offers students opportunities beyond competitive gaming—fostering academic growth, professional development, and leadership. With varsity and club teams in over a dozen titles, the program combines high-level competition with real-world experience.

Opened in Fall 2022, the Butler Esports Park features over 50 gaming PCs, consoles, VR stations, and flexible spaces for corporate training, youth camps, and educational programs: making the facility a campus hub for innovation and career exploration within the industry of gaming and technology.

Competition

Butler Esports competes and has competed in a variety of different leagues, such as Playfly Esports, National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), and the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE). Through these collegiate esports networks, our players have the opportunity to learn from and even take on some of the top collegiate talent in North America.

Curriculum

At Butler Esports, students from diverse backgrounds explore the rich history and evolution of the gaming industry while gaining insight into the many facets of the gaming ecosystem. From technical areas like software engineering, game development, and animation to esports-focused fields such as multimedia production, content creation, marketing, and event operations, students have numerous opportunities to learn and grow. Butler Esports hosts networking events and provides internship opportunities, supported by a vast network of esports alumni who continue their careers in the field, helping bridge the gap between education and professional careers in gaming and esports.
