Temporary Parking Passes
Temporary parking passes are required and available to the internal campus community (students, faculty, staff, affiliate groups, etc.) and overnight visitors. To learn more about the different temporary parking passes explore the sections below.
Students that bring an unregistered vehicle to campus may receive a temporary hangtag for one week – but there is no long-term, temporary parking for unregistered vehicles or those on the wait list for a permit. Be sure to register your vehicle before you bring it to campus. Failure to register your vehicle with an appropriate permit could result in multiple parking tickets, fines, and referral to the Office of the Dean of Students for student conduct action.
To obtain a temporary parking pass, you will need to provide your name, address, phone number as well as your vehicle information (make, model, color, license plate year, and number). Temporary parking passes can be purchased here:

Temporary parking passes are required whenever a registered student, faculty member, staff member, or member of an affiliated group with office space on campus will be parking an unregistered vehicle on University property. Passes may be obtained at the Office of Parking Services (4702 Sunset Drive, Suite 500, Indianapolis, IN 46208) during posted hours.
Each person is offered five free days with a temporary hangtag in an academic year. Temporary passes may be issued for up to three additional weeks provided that 1) the person has a primary vehicle registered with a current year permit and 2) the person only has one vehicle on campus during that time period. The cost for this is $10 per week. No other division or college is permitted to issue a temporary parking pass without approval from the chief of police.
Visitor Eligibility
A visitor is someone who is not directly associated with Butler University as a student, staff or faculty member or direct affiliate with a Butler ID number.
Overnight visitor hangtags can be obtained at the Parking Services Office during office hours. BUPD will no longer issue temporary hangtags. Visitor hangtags may only be issued for 4 days (3 nights) in a 7 day period in accordance with Residence Life policy on guests. Visitors will park on Haughey Avenue adjacent to Butler’s South Campus property. On-campus student parking areas are sold out and visitors will not be able to park in permit designated areas.
