Blueprint for Success
First Year
- Summer: Meet with faculty advisor to schedule Fall courses
- Meet with International Studies Student Mentor
- Meet with the Career and Professional Success (CAPS) Office
- Discuss a tentative four-year academic plan for graduation
- Attend to consider extracurricular academic clubs and organizations
- Consideration of a second academic major or minor
- Consider Honors Program (if applicable)
Sophomore Year
- Attend Butler Career Fair
- Begin attending campus networking events
- Start the resume building process
- Create a LinkedIn page
- Consider study abroad opportunities for the next academic year.
- Discussion with faculty advisor regarding professional goals
Junior Year
- Continue club/organization involvement
- Continue attending career networking events
- Find an International Studies related internship (utilizing CAPS’ Handshake)
- Take any necessary graduate entrance examinations (LSAT, GRE)
- Consider independent research (Butler BSI Program), or as a Faculty Research Assistant.
- Research International Studies related careers
- Consider job shadowing a professional in a chosen field
Senior Year
- Meet with faculty advisor to ensure all coursework is complete for graduation.
- Request letters of recommendation
- Begin looking for/applying to post-graduation employment opportunities
- Begin applying for graduate schools by the end of the Fall semester (if applicable)
- Finalize Resume
- Practice interview skills with the CAPS office
