Swim School
The Starfish Swim School curriculum is designed to build comfort, safety, and foundational swimming skills in children and adults. It emphasizes confidence in the water, safe entries and exits, floating, breath control, and body position—all while progressing through a series of five color levels.
The minimum age to participate in Swim School is five years old.
Levels
White Level focuses on trust and submersion, helping swimmers become comfortable in the water and willing to submerge their faces while learning safe entry behaviors.
Red Level introduces body position and air recovery, teaching basic floating on the front and back, rolling for air, and beginning independent movement.
Yellow Level emphasizes forward movement and direction change, where swimmers learn to propel themselves, change direction, and begin self-rescue sequences like “swim-roll-swim.”
Blue Level focuses on body rotation and rhythmic breathing, refining side-glide positions and coordination between arms, legs, and breathing patterns for efficient forward movement.
Green Level integrates full movement and safety, where swimmers combine strokes, tread water, float for survival, and build endurance in preparation for more technical swimming in Stroke School.
Stroke School
The Starfish Stroke School builds upon the foundation from Swim School by refining technique, increasing endurance, and developing proficiency in the four competitive strokes. Each level expands on skill, coordination, and fitness through the same five-color structure.
Levels
White Level introduces freestyle and backstroke fundamentals, focusing on balanced body position, coordinated breathing, and efficient propulsion.
Red Level adds elementary backstroke and side stroke, giving swimmers alternative endurance strokes and improving overall technique.
Yellow Level introduces the butterfly, teaching the rhythm, body undulation, and timing needed for smooth stroke development.
Blue Level emphasizes breaststroke, refining kick timing, arm movements, and streamlined glides for effective swimming.
Green Level integrates all four strokes, focusing on endurance, fitness, and efficiency. Swimmers develop the ability to swim multiple strokes over longer distances, practice turns, and sustain continuous swimming with proper technique—preparing them for lifelong fitness or entry into competitive swim training.
