Route 1: Activity 5

Route 1 is on rugged, non-paved trails and takes about 60 minutes to complete, but you can take as much time as you need to move through the activities. This tour requires extensive walking on unpaved trails and is best if you have a full hour.

Activity 5: Understanding Climate Anxiety

We can see that our climate is changing. Humans are experiencing anxiety due to the changing climate and growing weather volatility. This lack of predictability can create feelings of anxiety and worry as we perceive a loss of control over our environment and future. We may not be able to control the changing climate but we can control our choices and behavior.

Consider: What are some action steps you can take to do your part at reducing the human impact on the earth? Brainstorm ways that you can have a positive impact.

Evaluate your daily habits to see where you make a realistic change in your habits. For example:

  1. See where you could make different choices to support companies with a lower carbon footprint, with closed-loop or reduced-packaging initiatives, or with programs that actively support climate initiatives.
  2. Choose to eat a few meatless meals each week.
  3. Reduce the amount of travel you do by car – plan ahead to walk, bike, carpool, or use public transit.

The important part is tailoring your climate action to you and creating habits you can stick to over time!
