Outreach & Educational Programming

CCS is here to help Butler University students develop the personal awareness and skills necessary to overcome problems, make effective decisions, and grow and develop in ways that will allow them to maximize their total educational experience at Butler University. Outreach services and educational programming serve as an integral part of our mission and an essential tool for prevention, wellness, and promotion of a supportive campus climate for all members of the Butler community including Butler University students, faculty, and staff. Please contact Dr. Christine Kiray at ckiray@butler.edu if you are interested in requesting a program.

Programs are available for any campus organization, student group, or university department. The following list offers examples of topics we often provide, but the CCS staff members are available to collaborate with campus partners to design each program to fit each specific need or request:

  • Stress management
  • Relaxation
  • Study skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Relationship issues
  • Diversity
  • Eating disorders
  • Sexual assault awareness
  • Substance abuse
  • Suicide prevention
  • Safe Space Training

safe space trainingCCS offers Safe Space training as a part of our outreach and educational programming on campus. The program invites faculty, staff, and students to become active and effective allies to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community. The goal of the Safe Space program is to provide a more hospitable environment for LGBTQ individuals by establishing an identifiable network of allies who can provide support, information, and serve as allies to LGBTQ individuals within the Butler community.

  • To create campus spaces where LGBTQ persons feel safe, supported, and valued as members of our University or campus community
  • To provide information about resources and appropriate referrals for members of the campus community seeking additional support and information in this area
  • To expand the network of allies on campus
  • To build awareness of the issues affecting LGBTQ persons

Campus Connect is a suicide prevention training for gatekeepers offered by CCS staff.  The program’s goals are to increase knowledge and skills related to crisis intervention and suicide prevention.  The training is offered to students, faculty, and staff each semester or may be requested by any campus group or department with 10-25 participants.
