Director of Athletic Bands
Melissa Johnson
Professor Melissa Johnson received her Master’s of Music Performance in Conducting from Butler University, where she studied with Col. Michael Colburn and served as the Graduate Assistant to the Athletic Bands program. In addition, she received her Bachelor’s of Music Education from Hope College. Following her undergraduate work, she taught PS-12th grade music at a variety of schools in Michigan and Indiana. Johnson guest conducted with the Hope College High School Honor Bands program and spent time working with the Fred J. Miller and Music Effect Design Summer Clinic programs, where she worked with student leaders at colleges and universities across the United States. Most recently, Johnson served as the Interim Director of Athletic Bands at Butler and is now fully stepping into the position of Director of Athletic Bands.

Drumline Instructor
Mike Kehoe
Mike Kehoe is an active percussionist and educator originally from the Chicago-land area. He holds his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Ball State University where he studied with Braham Dembar. During his time at Ball State, Mike had the opportunity to perform with the top Wind Ensemble at numerous events/venues such as IMEA in Fort Wayne, CBDNA in Kansas City, and the Palladium in Carmel, Indiana.
Throughout his career, Mike has performed both solo and ensemble music in various settings. His marching career included six seasons of WGI, most recently with Legacy World and Veritas out of Indianapolis. Mike spent his last two seasons of WGI as center snare and ensemble leader for Legacy World (2018) and Veritas (2019).
He has also spent two summers marching drum corps as a snare drummer with Spirit of Atlanta and the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. During his time with the Phantom Regiment, he had the opportunity to perform in DCI World Class Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium. He has served as a percussion educator in the Hamilton Southeastern school district, and most recently took on the role of percussion director for Pike High School. Mike resides in northern Indianapolis.
