Butler University Libraries offers several avenues for the discovery of information:
- The Butler catalog is searched through WorldCat Discovery.
- There are search filters on the left-hand side of results that can be used to limit results. Additionally, advanced search can be used to add additional search qualifiers like keywords, title, author, date range, etc.
- Consider putting phrases and multi-word searches in quotes to help limit results.
- The search box returns results from Butler University’s collections (the top results) as well as items from other libraries in our Consortium and around the world.
- For items from within our Consortium, or another library, hold requests may be placed through PALShare (Consortium) or Interlibrary Loan.
- Irwin Library, Science Library, and Education Library maintain physical collections. Physical materials can also be found through WorldCat Discovery . Items may be placed on reserve by faculty for student use in individual courses, and those items may be searched for in the Course Reserves section.
- Databases A-Z – can be used to find specific databases – including journal databases, media such as music and movies, scores, and research.
- Journals A-Z – can be used to search for article citations, and specific journal names
- Special Collections, Rare Books, and University Archives hold rare and valuable collections, most of which relate to the history of Butler University and the surrounding area. These materials may only be consulted in the department but may be found through WorldCat Discovery (limit your search to Special Collections using the left-hand filters). Some collections have been digitized and are linked from the Digital Image Collections.
