Holiday Observation Process

Outside of Winter Break

  • If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on Friday.
  • If a holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed on Monday.
  • If a holiday falls during the workweek, it is observed on that day.

During Winter Break

If New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, winter break extends through the Monday following the holiday.

Guidelines may be adjusted depending on department/division need (e.g., events, on-call schedules, emergencies, etc.). Please address questions to your department’s leadership team.
