Doctor of Pharmacy (Online)

All applicants to the Doctor of Pharmacy online pathway must meet the following requirements:

• Successful completion of the nine math and science pre-requisite courses listed in the Prerequisites section above
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Candidates should submit the following with their PharmCAS application:

• PharmCAS application fee of $175 for the first application and $75 for each subsequent application
• Official transcripts from all institutions the applicant has attended
  • U.S. and English Canadian Transcript Information
  • International Transcript and WES Evaluation Information
• Personal statement

Online Program Immersion Expenses

P1 and P2 students may be eligible for $7,500 federal loans with additional $5,000 federal loan eligibility for independent students. Students can seek out private loans with a credit-worthy borrower or co-borrower.

P3 and P4 students, regardless of whether or not they hold a bachelor’s degree, can qualify for federal loans or private loans up to the cost of attendance.  These loans require a credit-worthy borrower or co-borrower.

Scholarship Eligibility

New campus-based and online pathway students with a prior bachelor’s degree starting their program in fall 2025 are currently eligible to receive an $18,000 scholarship over the course of the first two years ($9,000 per year for the first two years).

Butler University’s online PharmD program uses a cohort model with one start term per year in August.

Review the online PharmD admission requirements to determine if you are a qualified online PharmD candidate. Completing a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended but not required. You must be able to demonstrate successful completion of the nine math and science prerequisite courses listed in the Prerequisites section above. You must complete the following prerequisite courses before enrolling in Butler’s online PharmD program:

Pharmacy Practice Experiences let you put classroom theories into practice. In the summers following your first and second years, you will complete two Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences in community and institutional settings. Then during your fourth year, you will complete 10 one-month Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences. Through these 160-hour rotations (40 hours per week), you’ll gain experience in areas such as general medicine, acute care, ambulatory care, community practice, and a hospital system before completing two patient care electives and two elective rotations.

Our PharmD online pathway is a four-year program. You will spend the first three years taking interactive, online courses and completing asynchronous coursework. During your fourth year, you will complete 12 month-long rotations. Explore the online PharmD curriculum.

On average, online PharmD students dedicate approximately 50 hours per week to class time and coursework. This is a full-time program that will be a mix of live class sessions held on Zoom, homework, readings, at-home labs, on-campus immersions, and in-person pharmacy practice experiences.
