Curriculum
The College of Health Professions offers a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program that prepares students to be compassionate pharmacy practitioners who possess the knowledge and skills required as authorities on the use of medications, and who can apply pharmaceutical and biomedical science to the clinical application of drug therapy.
All didactic coursework, earned Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) hours, and University Core Curriculum requirements must be completed before beginning the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) hours in the P4 year of the curriculum.
Students are required to complete the Doctor of Pharmacy program of study with a minimum of 201 credit hours.
Successful completion of the professional curriculum requires that the student not exceed five hours of coursework with earned grades less than C (2.0) in PX and RX courses numbered 300 or higher. Additionally, the student’s professional GPA must be 2.0 or higher. The professional curriculum consists of those courses designated PX and RX. The proper sequence of courses must be maintained and the prerequisites for each course satisfied. The student is responsible for making certain that he or she has completed all required courses in the curriculum. Students must maintain their eligibility to continue in the pharmacy program.

Doctor of Pharmacy with Entrepreneurship Concentration
There is an increasing need for entrepreneurial skills in health care to encourage the creation of new and innovative health-related services, technologies, and therapies. To date, the entrepreneurial endeavors within the profession of pharmacy have been undertaken largely without formal training in entrepreneurship within the traditional pharmacy curriculum. Importantly, entrepreneurship is generally associated with the establishment of innovative and progressive services; entrepreneurship and its associated skills are key to the development of a range of health services in community, hospital, industry, and various other sectors.
Strong entrepreneurial skills form a dual, interactive process, where students develop an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their ideas, and of themselves, in relation to the wider environment. Students who pursue this concentration will be better equipped to identify emerging problems, develop thoughtful solutions, and lead the pharmacy profession forward.
Goals and Outcomes
- Provide students with a fundamental knowledge of concepts and skills necessary for practice in traditional and emerging areas of the profession.
- Teach students how to apply principles of operations, financial management, marketing, and innovation to pharmacy practice-related problems.
- Make students problem-solvers, helping them to overcome the unique and ever-changing challenges of delivering healthcare.
Concentration Curriculum
