Engineering Dual Degree Program

Important Program Update

As the Indiana University and Purdue University partnership in IUPUI ended on June 30, 2024, Butler’s partnership with Purdue Engineering programs is being discontinued. No new students will be accepted to the Engineering Dual Degree Program.

All students currently enrolled in the Engineering Dual Degree Program, including those starting the program in fall 2023, will be able to complete their degrees on schedule and without interruption. Please direct any questions to Dr. Amber Russell, Program Director, at acrusse3@butler.edu.

The next chapter of Engineering at Butler has arrived—the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences now offers majors in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Mechanical Engineering for students starting in fall 2026.

The unique structure of the Engineering Dual Degree Program (EDDP) addressed these needs to prepare graduates for career paths in industry, research, and more. EDDP students graduated in five years with:

1. An ABET-approved degree in engineering from the Purdue School of Engineering at Indianapolis, Butler’s program partner
2. A full major and degree in one or more of the natural sciences, mathematics, economics, statistics, art +design or music from Butler University
3. A strong liberal educational background from Butler’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Two neighboring universities, only five miles apart, supported the EDDP. With its strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences, Butler complemented the programs of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI in Indianapolis.
