Learning by Doing, Leading by Experience
Research has shown that hands-on learning experiences such as internships, study abroad, service learning, and undergraduate research, known collectively as “high-impact practices,” result in deep learning and increase rates of student retention, student engagement, and persistence to graduation for all students across every background. This is especially true for those who may be the first in their family to attend college, and those who are historically underserved in postsecondary education.
We are seeking philanthropic partners to support our students by helping to expand access to transformational high-impact educational experiences such as capstone projects, service learning opportunities, undergraduate research experiences, study abroad and domestic study away opportunities, and more. Whether on campus, in the community, or abroad, all of these experiences are guaranteed to provide students with significant educational benefits.
At Butler, we are currently limited in our capacity to meet the demand for these types of experiences due to funding constraints. Additional funding from philanthropic partners can help to increase participation and access for all students within every College by removing financial and other barriers and ensuring a high-quality experience for all students. Gifts will also help to strengthen and expand existing programs within each College and across the University, including Butler’s nationally recognized BU|BeWell model for holistic well-being.
These transformational, hands-on learning opportunities conducted in the relationship-rich Butler academic environment elevate Butler’s national reputation, further distinguish our personalized academic experience from other universities, and ultimately better prepare our students to achieve professional success and lead lives of meaning. Our goal is to raise $55 million to strengthen and expand these transformational learning experiences for all Butler students.
