Career Mentors for All

Invest in Mentorship, Invest in Tomorrow’s Leaders

Transformational learning opportunities come in many forms. One such experience that is a particular priority is providing career mentors for all students in every College and academic program. We have witnessed the power of this program in the Lacy School of Business (LSB) in helping to retain students, guide them successfully through the academic experience, and reach their career goals after graduation.

In LSB, every first-year student is matched with a personal career mentor from their first day on campus. Throughout their years at Butler, these students meet one-on-one with their career mentor several times each semester. Because these mentoring relationships generally last four years, the full duration of a student’s time at Butler, many students develop lifelong relationships with their career mentors and maintain their connection well beyond graduation. The outcomes of this sustained one-on-one mentorship are clear: the Lacy School of Business boasts an 85% retention rate, a 99% job placement rate within 6 months following graduation, and an average starting salary of $65,000 for graduates. The program is a perfect illustration of Butler’s relationship-rich academic experience in practice.

Through Boldy Butler, our commitment is to ensure every student, not just those in the Lacy School of Business, has a formal career mentor experience.

We are seeking philanthropic partners to join us in expanding and adapting this successful program to every College and academic discipline, providing a career mentor for all students at Butler.

In the Words of a Career Mentor

“While teaching career skills, we teach life skills. Authenticity, persistence, resilience, gratitude, and the power of human connection. The payoff for our students is more than a job, it’s the path to a fulfilling life.”

— Randy Brown, formerly Chief HR Officer at WellPoint (Anthem)
