Partnership with Faculty

The CCC can help imagine, design and implement civic engagement experiences related to research, teaching, or service.

We consult about how community engagement can help achieve learning goals, help identify an appropriate partner site wherein to stage service-learning or research, assist with assignments and course assessment strategies, and support teaching, research, and scholarship through collaboration and funding.

To propose a class, submit the ICR Course Proposal to the Center for Citizenship and Community in Jordan Hall Room 144A, or to Chad Bauman at cbauman@butler.edu. If this is a new course or a new Core course, please additionally submit the relevant course proposal to the University Curriculum Committee or the Core Curriculum Committee for approval.

For help on developing an ICR course, contact Hanako Gavia, Associate Director of the Office of Student Experience and Engagement (hgavia@butler.edu), or Chad Bauman (cbauman@butler.edu), faculty director of the ICR program. Once you are ready to propose a new ICR course or add the ICR designation to an existing course, please submit the proposal through Butler’s Modern Curriculum portal. As part of that proposal, you will be asked how your course fulfills the ICR SLOs.

All ICR courses are required to include (1) 20 hours of student engagement with community partners (generally unpaid), (2) assigned readings (like this one) and reflection on service learning, and (3) pre- and post-experience reflection. See the related resources and links below.
