Route 2: Activity 5–7

Route 2 is a mobility-device accessible trail that takes about 30 minutes to complete, but you can take as much time as you need to move through the activities. You can also select a single location and activity if you only have a few moments between classes.

Activity 5-7: Linking Breath and Movement

As you walk, bring your attention to the way you are breathing. Slow down your pace if you need to in order to take long, even breaths. Once you feel focused, begin to link your movement with your breath so that you inhale for two steps, and exhale with the next three steps. Let yourself fall into a rhythm and keep your focus on linking your breath with the movement.

This mindfulness activity helps to relieve anxiety, since lengthening your exhale to be longer than your inhale helps your nervous system shift from “fight-or-flight” mode to “rest-and-digest” instead.
