Policies

Philosophy of Recruitment

The Butler University Doctoral Internship Program is committed to attracting and training diverse interns. By doing so, we believe interns have a richer experience, and students receive better care. APA Minority Fellows are encouraged to apply to the program. We also believe in being transparent with our selection process. Throughout the selection process the intern candidate is free to contact the site at any time to speak to the Training Director or to current interns and staff about the training program. The Selection Committee may interact with candidates for purposes of gathering information only. The frequency of contact(s) themselves do not constitute an implicit or explicit element of favoritism or a guarantee of an internship slot. This internship site is a member of APPIC and, as such, agrees to abide by APPIC policies. In particular, we agree to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant.

Butler University Nondiscrimination Policy

The internship program adheres to Butler University’s policy on nondiscrimination in its hiring processes:

Butler University is committed to enhancing the diversity of the student body, faculty and staff. In addition, hiring decisions are made on the basis of an individual’s qualifications, past experience, overall performance and other employment-related criteria. Butler University provides equal opportunities for employment and advancement for all individuals, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, color, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, national origin, or any other legally protected category.

Campus Visits

In order to be fair to all applicants, there will be no formal contact with the Director of Training during campus visits that happen to occur prior to actual interviews. If candidates are interested in visiting the Butler campus outside of formal interviews, they should contact the Director of Training who will connect them with one of our current interns in order to provide a tour of the facility.

Application Process

Applications are due by 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on November 10 for the three internship positions. Our program code for the Match is 129311.

Applications must be submitted via the APPIC online process found on the APPIC website (appic.org). Files are not considered complete until all materials are received by the Director of Training. The Selection Committee will review applicant files. Applicants chosen for interviews will be notified by the Director of Training by December 15 and scheduled for a virtual interview conducted using Zoom. Email notification will be sent by December 15 to applicants no longer being considered.

Immediately following the candidate interviews, the Selection Committee will meet to rank applicants. Applicants will not be contacted after interviews regarding whether they will be included in our rank order submission. As stated in the Philosophy of Recruitment statement, we may have contact with applicants only for informational and clarification purposes.

Applicants that match with our site must pass a background check and complete necessary paperwork for HR prior to starting internship. The University conducts primary background checks on final job candidates in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. They include:

  • Social Security Trace
  • Academic Verification (highest degree) US & Canada – International where applicable
  • Prior Employment Verification (past (7) seven years) US & Canada – International where applicable
  • Criminal National Database search
  • Federal Criminal National Database search
  • Criminal County Database Felony/Misdemeanor search

Interns who match to our site but do not complete or pass this background check will not be allowed to continue in the internship program. Background checks that have employment, education, and date discrepancies or convictions will be subject to review by HR in determining eligibility for employment. The HR representative will notify the hiring manager in instances where negative or incomplete information is obtained. The appropriate management and HR representative will assess the potential risks and liabilities related to the job’s requirements and determine whether the individual should be hired. If a decision not to hire or promote a candidate is made based on the results of a background check, additional FCRA requirements are handled by HR in conjunction with Barada, Inc.

The deadline for submitting your AAPI materials, which should include graduate transcript, CV, cover letter, and reference forms, is 5:00 PM EST on November 10.
