Sidewalking – walking alongside the horse during a therapy session to help the therapist stabilize the patient and ensure safety. Volunteer sidewalkers might be asked to engage in playing games with the child during certain activities, or possibly to stay quiet as they walk along depending on what the child is working on that day. We have a range of size horses and ponies depending on the rider’s size so Volunteers should feel comfortable walking alongside different size ponies and horses depending on the rider’s size, however no horse experience is required since we have trained horse handlers who guide the horses during the therapy sessions.  Starting off we ask volunteers to shadow a sidewalking session first.
