A Butler education will transform you. It will also transform to fit you. Here, you’ll be able to tailor your studies, your activities, your research, and your service-learning to the subjects, ideas, and career fields you’re really interested in. Add the close-knit community of staff, faculty, and friends who will support you, and you’ll be primed to do your very best work.
We call the level of work that goes into our academic studies—and everything else we do—The Butler Way. It’s our philosophy of always doing more than our best, constantly pushing things further, and helping others do the same. We do it because it’s the right thing to do, but also because we love the rush of seeing what we can really accomplish.
Stories about The Butler Way
We are committed to the well-being of each member of our community. The eight dimensions of Butler’s BUBeWell model are the foundation of a transformative and holistic student experience. Through BUBeWell, we foster a positive environment that helps students grow, learn, and become the best version of themselves.
With an average class size of just 21 students and a student-to-faculty ratio of 11-to-1, you will absolutely be known by your professors and your fellow students. You’ll also connect with at least one teacher, if not several, who will help you find and pursue your passion. You'll collaborate more and compete less, and be surrounded by peers who are just as excited to be in class as you are.
Small Class Size Stories
You'll have an assigned faculty mentor from the department that houses your major who will partner with you to make sure you reach your academic, career, and personal goals. Double majors get two. If you’re in a pre-law or pre-health major, you’ll get specific advising to prepare you for success in law school, medical school, or another grad school program.
Can’t find a major to suit you exactly? Create your own individualized major: a one-of-a-kind course of study that combines your choice of classes with an approved experiential learning component.
And any time you need extra help, you’ll be able to find academic coaching and peer tutoring at the Center for Academic Success and Exploration.
