Graduate Credit for Prior Learning Standing Pathways
A standing pathway is a Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) option that has been pre-evaluated and is available to admitted students. These pathways streamline the CPL process, making it easier and more efficient for students to apply their prior learning toward their academic goals.
If your prior learning matches one of these pathways, we encourage you to connect with us. If your experience doesn’t align with a current pathway, we’re always excited to explore new individualized options and expand our CPL offerings.
To submit a credit request or discuss your experience, please contact us at registrar@butler.edu.
College of Communication Standing Pathways

Students who demonstrate substantive prior experience with American Sign Language (ASL) through any of the following pathways may be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning toward SLHS 501 American Sign Language:
Eligible Experience: Prior ASL experience includes (1) undergraduate or graduate ASL coursework from an accredited institution; (2) current interpreter licensure or certification (e.g., NIC, RID, state-level licensure); (3) lived experience as a Deaf person who uses ASL; or (4) lived experience as a family member of a Deaf ASL user who uses ASL with native or near-native proficiency.

The Program Director will review submitted materials and make a determination of credit eligibility.

Students who have completed a graduate-level Research Methods course at an accredited institution but whose coursework falls outside the program’s standard transfer credit time window may petition for Credit for Prior Learning toward ED 673 Research Methods.

Required Documentation: Submit the course syllabus and, if available, representative samples of student work (e.g., research proposal, literature review, data analysis assignment) to the Program Director.
