If you’re completing an Associate of Arts at Ivy Tech Community College, this pathway explains how your credits can apply toward Butler’s Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Most students transfer credits and then complete the remaining credits at Butler.


What This Agreement Covers

This transfer pathway supports Ivy Tech students completing Spanish coursework, Liberal Arts degrees, or general humanities coursework who want to advance to upper-level Spanish study.

The BA in Spanish includes:

  • Advanced grammar and composition
  • Conversation and oral proficiency
  • Literature and culture of Spain and Latin America
  • Film, linguistics, or sociocultural studies
  • A senior-level seminar and advanced electives

Most students complete the remaining degree in two years at Butler.

What’s Fulfilled Through Your Ivy Tech Degree

Based on the agreement, Ivy Tech graduates typically receive Butler credit in areas such as:

  • First-Year Seminar (FYS101 and FYS102)
  • Global & Historical Studies (GHS) (2 courses)
  • Analytical Reasoning (AR)
  • Natural World (NW) (lab science requirement)
  • Perspective in the Creative Arts (PCA)
  • Social World (SW)
  • Spanish language sequence (a full set of lower-division Spanish courses)
  • Elective credit that can be used toward an optional minor

Most students complete the remaining degree in two years at Butler.

What Courses Will I Take at Butler?

After transfer, students typically complete upper-level Spanish coursework (300–400 level) plus remaining Butler requirements and electives/minor coursework. Coursework often includes: Spanish-Articulation-Agreement

  • Spanish oral communication
  • Spanish written communication
  • Upper-level Spanish content courses (300/400-level)
  • ICR course and PWB (Physical Well-Being)
  • Electives/minor coursework

Licensure Requirements

This is a non-licensure program. No teaching exams or student teaching are required.

If you want to teach Spanish (grades 5–12), you should follow the Middle/Secondary Education – Spanish licensure pathway instead.
