Experiential Opportunities and Clinicals

One major highlight of a Butler education is experiential learning, and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is no different. Students will have ample opportunities to practice their skills as a student nurse through real world learning opportunities with clinical hours, simulation experiences, electives, a preceptorship, and more.

Beginning with the first year, students will benefit from clinical experiences featuring an 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio. While the locations of the clinical experiences will vary, all clinicals will be within a one hour drive from campus.

Starting clinical experiences this early in an academic career allows a student to be eligible for employment in a hospital or clinical setting, beginning with the summer after their first year.

By the end of the program, students will have completed 495 total clinical hours in areas including adult medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, community health, and health assessment, plus their 1:1 preceptorship. Students will also choose an extra clinical elective in cardiology, medical surgical, or perioperative care.
