I-LEAD: Interact. Lead. Engage. Act. Discover.

Purpose

Formed in partnership with Academic Affairs, the I-LEAD space (JH186) was designed to increase interactional diversity on campus through intentional programming. By engaging with people who hold different identities and viewpoints, I-LEAD programming will help campus members to:

  • expand their worldview by learning about others’ backgrounds and lived experiences
  • develop a deeper curiosity for our world and the people in it
  • recognize and unlearn biases they may hold.

Programming

The Division of DEI will host monthly dialogues to provide an intimate space to discuss critical topics affecting members of the Butler community civilly and productively. Past topics include experiences of Black hair discrimination; effective allyship towards the LGBTQIA+ community; and understanding the experiences of queer people of color.

Campus members are invited to host programming in I-LEAD by reserving the space through Butler’s EMS system. Programming can include dialogues, educational workshops and training sessions, social meetings, and other programs that help Butler University become a more intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable campus.

Resources

In collaboration with Irwin Library, there is a miniature satellite library where people can read books for individual DEI education. Campus members can view the materials during I-LEAD programming or by request. However, materials are also located and must be checked out through Irwin Library. Contact Lauryn Jones (ldjones3@butler.edu) if you would like to browse the library. There are also online resources, including our DEI LibGuide, that can be utilized for DEI learning.

If you’d like to lead a dialogue or have topics you’d like the Division of DEI to discuss in one of our dialogues, please complete this form.
