A native of Indianapolis, Patty Shute Wachel graduated from Butler in 1973 with a degree in Sociology. Patty is a proud 3 generation Butler family with her Father Duane Shute ‘33 and her husband Stan Wachel‘ 74 along with her daughter Katie ‘14. In addition to Katie, Patty has 3 sons; Matthew, Brian, and Christopher Wachel along with 3 grandchildren. Patty retired from her professional Human Resources career in 2020 but continues to consultant work. Her Human Resources career spans work with small startups to global companies where she developed and implemented training and development platforms and recruitment strategies. A member of Delta Gamma Fraternity, Patty served in numerous local and national level positions including Vice-President Membership. While serving Delta Gamma, she visited over 40 college campuses across the country. She currently serves on the Delta Gamma Board of Advisors and will work with the re-established chapter at Harvard University. She has received the Delta Gamma Cable and Loyalty Awards for her work with Delta Gamma and is a Rose Circle honoree. She learned the value of volunteerism from Butler and Delta Gamma, Patty has lived in several states over the years and served on the Wichita Catholic Charities Board of Directors,The Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments Board of Directors, DeSmet Jesuit High School Mother’s Club President, Chairman of Art of the Eye Boston, and currently serves as a volunteer with Meal on Wheels. Patty is a passionate alumna of Butler University. She served on the Alumni Board of Directors from 2014-2018 and served as Vice-President Membership in 2017 and 2018. She and Stan co-chair the Greater Boston Alumni Community which celebrated its third year anniversary in August. They also funded the Shute-Wachel Liberal Arts Scholarship. Patty has been working with the Alumni Board and the Alumni Engagement Committee as a Putnam Society Emeritus Director this past year.
