Religion: Recommended Three-Year Path

Notes:

  • Students should expect to average a minimum of 18 credit hours each of the 6 fall/spring semesters they are enrolled. Averaging 18 credit hours per semester will still leave the student with 12 additional credit hours required to reach the minimum graduation requirement of 120 credit hours. If these are not transferred in before the student commences studies at Butler, they will need to be taken during the summer.
  • The only Religion course that is regularly taught during the summer (both online and in person) is RL101 (Religions of the World). Students should plan to take that course during the summer, as well as several other core courses. Students could also partner with a professor to take a Religion course as an independent study over the summer.
  • All Liberal Arts and Sciences students are required to take two semesters of language at the 200-level or above. Students wishing to complete their studies in three years should try their best to test out of one or more semesters of language. The schedule pr the student has not tested out of any courses.
  • Note that even in this condensed schedule for a student who has not tested out of any language, there remains ample space for courses outside of the core and the major. The student could therefore add a minor, study abroad for a semester (or even better, over the summer), or perhaps even add a second major. There are a thousand variables that could affect the student’s schedule and trajectory through the degree, which is why students wishing to complete their degree in 3 years must work very closely with their advisor/s. The schedule is only one possible way the Religion degree could be achieved in 3 years.
  • One of these courses must cover the Indianapolis Community Requirement. Within the major, Islam (RL354) currently covers it.
  • There are area requirements that must be fulfilled within the Religion major. The student should work with her or his advisor to make certain that the upper-level Religion courses taken fulfill these requirements.
