German (From GR101): Recommended Three-Year Path

Notes:

  • Total credits: 120. German Major: 33 credits (24 at the 300 level or above).
  • Starting from GR 101, leaves up to 60 credits available for a second major
  • Assumes GR 101 and 102 will be 3 credits beginning 2021/2022, otherwise add 2 credits to the total
  • Summer one – Could complete the Heidelburg Program instead (GR203, GR204, 300level GR Studies Seminar) – if student completes the Heidelberg Program or other study abroad summer program with at least 9 credits, student is exempt from one GHS
  • Assumes 8 BCR events will be attended over the course of the 3 years.
  • Student would earn TI exemption with 9 upper level GR credits that qualify.
  • If you have completed “dual enrollment” courses during high school, AP/I.B./CLEP exams, or college courses, we will help you find the appropriate Butler course(s) and potentially earn Butler placement credits (BLPC). Placement credits allow you to combine other majors and/or minors with your Modern Languages degree or take general electives you’re eager to experience. BLPC are awarded based upon your Butler placement exam result or the course level in which you begin via permission of the Modern Languages department chair.
  • For BLPC, you can request these 200-level elective credits after completing, each with a “C-” or better, two 300-level Butler courses in the same language. How it works:
    • Begin in 203: you’ll be eligible for three 200-level elective BLPC
    • Begin in 204: you’ll be eligible for  six 200-level elective BLPC
    • Begin in 300-level Skills: you’ll be eligible for  nine 200-level elective BLPC
