Adult and Youth Swim Lessons
Swim lessons are open to students, faculty, staff
AND the community. No HRC membership is required to take lessons!
We offer Adult Private/Semi-Private Swim Lessons. These lessons are
for adults that never had the opportunity or need work on their
technique to become better fitness swimmers. All abilities are
welcome. It's never too late to learn to swim!
The American Red Cross, Learn to Swim Parent Tot, Levels
Pre-school, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 are also offered. There are 8
lessons per session. Parent Tot is a 30 minute lesson and Levels
Pre-6 are 40 minute lessons.
Update on 6/10/13: Session 2 is underway and Session 3
registration is open until July 1. Be sure to get in group lessons
before the summer is over!
Semi/Private Lessons has reached capacity and
registration is closed. We are working to hire more swim
instructors to accomodate the demand.

Lesson Options
Group lessons: Set schedule of lessons with a
minimum enrollment of three participants and a maximum of six
participants to one instructor. If the minimum enrollment is not
met, we reserve the right to combine or cancel classes. Weekday
group sessions consists of 8 - 40 minute lessons. Make-up
lessons only available for illness or cancellations due to weather.
Register
Private lessons : One-on-one
instruction with a swim instructor. Each lesson is 40 minutes in
length and scheduled on an individual basis with the instructor
when the Aquatic Center is open. All skill levels welcomed. Please
allow 10 business days after registering to have your lesson
scheduled to begin. Registration

Semi-private lessons: Two to three individuals
per instructor, preferably with the same ability. Lessons are set
up the same as private lessons. This is great for friends wanting
to learn to swim together. We do not put people together for
semi-private lessons. Please register with pre-arranged
groups. Please allow 10 business days after registering to
have your lesson scheduled to begin. Registration

Skill Requirements
Level descriptions of skills children must be able to perform
for child swim lessons:
Parent Tot (PT): Ages
1-3yrs. old, parent who is able to swim must accompany the child in
the water at all times. Children must wear swimming diapers
throughout class.
Pre-school: New to the
water, but willing to learn. Should be able to listen and follow
directions from the instructor and be independent from their
parent. (Age of 3 required by start of lessons)
Level 1: Some experience
with the water, is willing to work away from the wall. Child is
capable to enter and exit the pool with little assistance. (Age of
5 is preferred by start of lessons)
Level 2: Be able to
comfortably place face and head in water. Child is capable to enter
and exit the pool unassisted. Can perform front and back float for
3 seconds with support.
Level 3: Able to float
unsupported for at least 5 seconds on front and back and swim 5
yards of front and back crawl without assistance.
Level 4: Can swim 15 yards
front crawl using rhythmic breathing, swim 15 yards of back crawl,
and tread water for 30 seconds
Level 5: Child is able to
swim 25 yards of front/back crawl, 15 yards of breaststroke, and
tread water for 1 minute.
Level 6: Continuously swim
front and back crawl for 50 yards, breaststroke and elementary
backstroke for 25 yards, and tread water for 2 minutes.
Adult: Ranges from no
experience to athletic practice. Private/semi-private lessons are
available.
