Campus Connection
Bulldogs beyond borders.
No matter where they are across the globe, Butler Overseas students are Bulldogs through and through. Butler’s campus resources, support networks, and close-knit community are available throughout your three-year journey, keeping you connected even beyond your summer semesters in Indianapolis. You’ll build relationships and a sense of belonging with both the cohort you travel with and the Butler community at large, with plenty of opportunities to reflect, connect, and settle into life as a global Bulldog.
Summer Semesters
Butler’s Indianapolis campus isn’t merely a “placeholder” between experiences abroad—it’s a vital part of the program experience as a whole. Students’ first summer term before departure is especially formative for cohort identity and cohesion before heading abroad.
The first summer term will include:
- Welcome and orientation experiences to help students get to know Butler, their peers, and the unique shape of their global year
- Campus and Indianapolis exploration activities designed to introduce key locations, resources, and people they can expect during their summer semesters
- Intentional programming with other Butler student leaders to build community and belonging with students stateside
- Introductions to on-campus community spaces such as The Compass Center and the Efroymson Diversity Center, which are dedicated to creating “home away from home” through everything from spiritual care and identity reflection to game nights and casual hangouts
Second and third summer terms will also include:
- A welcome gathering to celebrate and welcome students back from their journeys abroad
- Storytelling opportunities designed to give Butler Overseas students a platform to share experiences with the wider Butler community
- Access to local Internships in collaboration with Butler’s office for Career and Professional Success (CaPS)
- Collaborations with Butler’s Indianapolis Summer Experience (ISE) to explore Indianapolis, the 16th largest city in the United States, while expanding your professional network with other local Butler students
- Continued activities and excursions in Indianapolis, including opportunities for educational tours, service learning, and local entertainment
